Difference between Cornerstone Core and Cornerstone3D

It’s not clear to me what the difference is between:

Is “cornerstone3D” intended to be the successor to “cornerstone core”? Or does “cornerstone3D” use “cornerstone core” under the hood? Is “cornerstone core” going to be deprecated? Etc. Any information about this would be helpful.

Sounds like cornerstone3D is intended to be the successor to cornerstone (legacy) and can basically do all the same things.
